Settler’s Ridge
Sugar Grove, Illinois
Recipient of 2007 Home Builders of Greater Chicago Silver Key Award for
Outstanding Design — Mixed-Use Development Category
Land Vision, Inc., coordinated the work of the consultant team and prepared a detailed general development plan and detailed design guidelines (pattern book) for an 1,800-acre mixed-use development incorporating new urbanism and conservation development principles. The new neighborhoods provide a wide range and mix of housing types, neighborhood commercial uses, civic uses, parks and an open space linkage through the neighborhood connecting an adjacent forest preserve with nearby conservation areas and trail system. While the buildings, blocks and neighborhoods accommodate the automobile, they were primarily designed to provide scale, safety and comfort for the pedestrian. Settler’s Ridge also was intended to be an extension of the established community and many connections are maintained in order to achieve such physical and emotional connections to the community.
